We figured we'd arrive in Hakuba, Nagano just as things were clearing up after Typhoon 21. Magic. Little did we know that as we navigated the highways (admiring the chandelier buses and cars with lace seat covers), the typhoon had changed course and was following us to Nagano. Gaining on us, in fact. Oblivious in our bliss, listening to homemade cd's for the roadtrip, the weather darkened, worsened and buckets of torrential rain ensued. Optimism. We had loads of it. We were sure the skies would be clear by the time we reached Hakuba. Stupidity. We had loads of that too, our Burt Bacharach/Steriogram compilation notwithstanding.
